I remember discussing a documentary called “Why Young Americans Hate Politics” in 2004 at my undergraduate institution. I just came upon a BBC article on young Americans which shows that things might be changing slowly, for the good at least.
According to the article, young Americans are set to show their increasing engagement in politics through a new website called scoop08. This is a national online newspaper run by college and high school students from around the country.
Interesting fact: “People aged 18-29 will make up 25% of the electorate in 2008, according to the University of Maryland’s Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (Circle), up from 21% in 2006.”
It will be worth watching how the involvement of young voters will change the face of next election.
